A molecule discovered in France has taken some first encouraging results during testing in patients with a chronic inflammatory disease, lupus erythematosus that affects millions of people around the world, said French researchers.
The team led by Sylviane Muller Institute of Molecular Biology in Strasbourg (eastern France) in 2001 had discovered a protein fragment, peptide P140, able to treat mice suffering from lupus.
The test was conducted in Bulgaria in 20 patients. The first results "very encouraging" confirm that this molecule, called "peptide P140" is a "very good candidate" to treat this disease, the cause of disability, which affects young adults, especially women, according to the National Center Scientific Research in France.
